1. LIVING HOUSE

Street view tall.jpg

The Living House challenge - to transform an old Victorian styled house into a versatile and enjoyable living environment for a family of five, capable of adaptations for the coming 30 years. This project responds to two of the major issues of the current establishment - the lack of light and the narrow interior layout.which need to be urgently addressed.

One of such is the lack of natural light. The narrow site as well as local building regulations prohibits openings on the long sides of the house; thus, overhead skylights are designed to introduce light to the living space via the void at first floor. This helps to overcome the interior layout issues as new partitions based on public and private thresholds are no longer suffering from the claustrophobic quality of the original house.

2. LIVING NEighBOURHOOD

The Living Neighbourhood is designed for a small, close community of international students. This housing complex is based on the idea of a central courtyard, where individuals coexist with one another in unity. Two trees mark out the centre of traffic, where communal facilities such as the kitchen, storage as well as roof gardens gravitate around it.

Of course, the central theme of this establishment is the internal courtyard, which provides excellent opportunity for outdoor activities while being fenced off from the public realm.
